COURSE AIM
The aim of this training course is to inform the participants about the different types of machine guards that are used in the workplace, the critical elements of machine guarding, common pitfalls with machine guards and associated safe work practices.
SESSION 1. The Course Introduction and Important Points about Machine Guarding
This session clearly explains the aim of the training course and the reason why the course is being conducted. It also covers why guards are used, where guards should be used, the four main risks associated with mechanical hazards, the responsibilities different work groups have for guarding and the five main types of guards.
SESSION 2. The Critical Elements of Machine Guarding, Common Pitfalls and Safe Work Practices
This session looks at four critical safety principles and how they apply to the subject of machine guarding. It also looks at the main pitfalls associated with machine guarding and several safe work practices that should be adhered to when working with equipment and machinery.
SESSION 3. A Workshop Exercise
During this session the participants are involved in a workshop exercise. This exercise will assist the participants to become aware of a range of positive factors associated with machine guarding in their workplace.
SESSION 4. The Course Review and Written Questionnaire
During this session the participants are involved in a thorough review of the course information. The session then concludes with the participants completing a written questionnaire.
